Executive Director Job Description as it pertains to AEF:
The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and the management of the foundation which entails overseeing the strategic plan for the organization. The position reports directly to the Alexandria Education Foundation Board of Directors. As the AEF Executive Director your work includes:
- Board Management - Working closely with the AEF Executive Board to coordinate and conduct monthly board meetings. Oversee the annual work plan and the annual budget to advance goals, provide strong governance and support the work and mission of the foundation. Communicate regularly with the board on actions taken towards meeting goals and objectives for the foundation.
- Grants, Donors, Partnerships & Development - Oversee annual teacher grant program. Create and implement a plan for annual giving to fund grants including a focused membership drive for Alexandria Public Schools staff and parents, and an annual business sponsorship campaign. Identify, engage and grow support from individuals and businesses through building relationships that connect donors to the mission of the foundation. Work to grow the endowment of AEF through partnerships, donations and sponsorships. Establish an annual budget.
- Event Planning & Marketing - Take the lead in AEF event planning and provide committee oversight and event implementation. Create marketing materials to promote AEF initiatives and events to be used both in print and in social media promotions. Work with and maintain budgets. Track pledged sponsorships. Promote events and the foundation, in general, through graphics, photos, videos and more. Take an active role in managing the AEF social media outlets and website.
- Other Duties/Qualifications - Attend community events on behalf of the organization. Represent the organization in a positive way. All other duties as assigned that support the organization’s operations, mission, board and committees.
- Associate or Bachelor level degree preferred - experience in public relations, marketing and fundraising also preferred
- Transparent and high integrity leadership
- Preferred experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors
- High level strategic thinking and planning
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
