- Army Air Corps, B-17 navigator, 23 bombing missions in Europe during WWII
- Army Transport Command in the Pacific until discharge in 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant
- Teacher of General Business, Math, Algebra, History and English
- 33 years of public service in education in many Minnesota communities – Minneota, Alexandria, Nicolett, Villard, Shakopee and Marshall
- Served as a member and President of the Minnesota State High School League
- State Commissioner of Education, 1981-1983
- Served 4 years as mayor of Marshall, MN
- Active in Rotary, including Team leader of the Rotary Group Study Exchange team to Sao Paulo, Brazil
- Served on the YMCA Board, Western Bank and Trust Board, and Bremer Mutual Fund Board
