  • Winner of the Eisner Award for Best Comics-Related Book; Finalist in PEN America Literary Award for Biography and National Book Critics Award for Biography, Krazy: George Herriman, A Life in Black and White
  • ASCAP Deems Taylor Award Recipient, The Kingdom of Zydeco
  • Awarded First Prize Awards for writing by National Association of Alternate Newsweeklies, Louisiana Press Association and New Orleans Press Club
  • Former editor of New Orleans’ Gambit Weekly
